Methods of ordering your Repeat Prescriptions

  • Via the NHS App – Owned and run by the NHS, the NHS App is the most simple and secure way to access a range of NHS services on your smartphone or tablet. The NHS App is available now on iOS and Android.
  • NHS Online Login – You can view your current repeat medication and order the items you require. This is for patients who have a NHS login.

Prescriptions will take 4 working days to be authorised from the date of request.

Processing time of the prescription depends on your chosen pharmacy.

Prescription Charges

These charges apply in England only. In Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales prescriptions are free of charge.

  • Prescription (per item): £9.90
  • 3-month PPC: £32.05
  • 12-month prepayment certificate (PPC): £114.50
  • HRT (PPC): £19.80 (cost of two prescription charges)

If you will have to pay for four or more prescription items in three months, or more than 15 items in 12 months, you may find it cheaper to buy a PPC.

HRT Pre-Payment Certificate

From the 1 April, the Government is launching the HRT Pre-Payment Certificate (PPC) to reduce prescription costs for women receiving Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT).

The HRT PPC will be available to buy in one single payment online at www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/hrt-ppc, or in-person at some pharmacies. You can call 0300 330 2089 for help and support.

What to do with old medicines

You can dispose of old medications by taking them to any local pharmacy. Do not put it in your household bin or flush it down the toilet.

Clinical Waste (Sharps Bins)

Reading Borough Council provide a service where they will collect sharp bins for patients who use them regularly.

Residents requiring a clinical waste collection should be referred to the council by their GP surgery, district nurse or NHS Trust. Please contact us if this is required by calling the main phone line. Such referrals should be in writing either by letter or email, and be clearly identifiable as coming from the patient’s medical providers.
